Carb Cap Buyer's Guide: Types of Carb Caps
Posted by Jack Daniel (Edited by Jay Dreadhead) on 5th Nov 2016
It’s no secret by now that the key to enjoying the full potential of strength, aroma, flavor, and effects from your concentrates is to achieve full vaporization at the lowest temperatures possible. Gone are the days of heating your nail up until it is glowing red, then sizzling your dabs into a muddled mess of toasted terps, or waiting too long and being left with unused pools of wasted oil.
With the invention of the carb cap, dabbers everywhere could finally taste the strain! The restricted air flow created by a functional carb cap reduces the air pressure throughout your rig, including on the dabbing surface itself. This lower pressure results in a lower boiling point for your oil, meaning, it takes less heat to create the huge, thick, plumes of vapor that you desire with each dab.
Lower temp dabs with the proper carb cap not only taste much better, but the undamaged terpene profile also contributes to a more clear-headed and enjoyable experience overall. Not to mention, no more wasted puddles of nug-run! But, just as there are a growing number of different styles of domeless nails, bangers, and buckets, carb cap designers have created different designs to best match each style of nail for optimum performance.
Here is TheDabLab.com guide to making sure you snag the right carb cap for your setup:
This style of carb cap provides superior control of directional flow. It’s round in shape, featuring a smooth ball-and-socket fit with a handle at the top and a spout at the bottom. This control allows you to vaporize every last drop of your terpy dabs at the lowest possible temperatures! Watch the oil run away from the spout as you wiggle it back and fourth. Isn't it fun?

The newest technology for quartz bangers, these create a vortex airflow effectively spinning the oil around the head of your quartz banger. When used with Terp Pearls, it increases vaporization efficiency and ZINGS the banger beads around the nail helping spread that oil across the surface area even more effectively. There are several different type of spinner carb caps.
-
Riptide / Vortex Spinner Cap
This type of spinner cap features a spout with multiple holes. Those holes are twisted like Fusilli pasta into a corkscrew shape. As the air passed through the corkscrew shape it creates a vortex airflow with the nail head. Gordo Scientific was the first artist to bring this design to market and has perfected the design.
-
Dual Spout Spinner Cap
This type of spinner features two spouts bent in the opposite direction that creates a cross flow vortex.
-
Carved Coin / Jar Spinner Cap
This type of carb cap is solid and flat. Angled grooves are carved into these coins / jars. This tends to be the most restricted design cap, but it is very effective at creating a vortex airflow. D-Nail popularized the coin design while STR8 Glass popularized the jar design. The jar version is pretty cool because you can store your terp pearls inside of them!
-
OTP Spinner Cap
This design was created by ONETRICKPONY Glass. It’s made of a solid marble with a solid cylinder spout that sits snuggly inside a flat top quartz banger. On opposite sides, 2 angles slits are cut into the solid spout. This is one of the most effective designs for creating a vortex airflow without restricting the airflow excessively.
-
Solid Marble
This is the most simple design but can only be used for certain style quartz bangers like the Terp Slurper Quartz Banger and the Blender Quartz Banger as it completely closed off airflow from the top of the nail. It’s just a solid round marble!

As you can see, there are many options. But with this guide, once you narrow them down a bit based on the style of nail that you have, or plan to purchase, it should come down to choosing the style that suits you best. After your first sesh with your new carb cap setup, you’ll understand what all the hype is about.
